The Greater Loudoun Civitan Club
Welcome to the local chapter of Civitan International. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:30 pm in Leesburg, Virginia where we discuss how we can serve the developmentally disabled in Loudoun County while enjoying interesting program presentations from local organizations that serve this amazing community. Our monthly meetings and service opportunities provide our members an opportunity to learn about the needs of our community, get better acquainted with local providers, and develop strong relationships with Loudoun County.
Our Club conducts numerous fundraising activities to help us support programs for the developmentally disabled. Such projects include:
- Selling the popular White House Ornaments
- Raising money for Loudoun Therapeutic Riding
- Our continuous support for Civitan International Research Center
Our "hands-on" approach for those with disabilities include:
Karaoke Dance Parties-every 3 months
Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities are our guests at these fun-filled events. They enjoy dancing or moving to the lively music or just listening to the music and watching others. They enjoy the opportunity to socialize with friends or make new friends or renew friendships from high school or from their other places of residence. For those who choose to do Karaoke, this may be their only chance to sing into a microphone to an audience. The ability to carry a tune is not a prerequisite. This event is a great opportunity to have fun. There is no charge for the event or for the snacks.
Bingo at Spring Arbor Assisted Living-every 3 months
The residents at Spring Arbor love our visits with them. They not only get another time to play one of their favorite games, but they get to choose prizes from an array of special prizes that we bring with us. We keep a watchful eye on their cards to make sure that they don’t miss any numbers. After about an hour and a half of Bingo, we serve homemade snacks as we all enjoy talking with each other. This is a most delightful event for all of us.
Trailview Blvd. Adopt-a-Street-4 times a year
To fulfill part of our civic and environmental responsibility, we walk up and down the street removing the trash lying along the road. The Town of Leesburg provides us with trash bags, gloves, and bright vests so that we can clean up this well-travelled road.
Bingo Parties at a Group Home-Seasonal
The residents, their families, staff, and club members all enjoy an afternoon of Bingo together. It’s a special time for everyone to be enjoying each other and having a lot of laughter and fun. Everyone bring snacks, and these are also greatly enjoyed.
Everyone is involved in the Bingo games. At Christmastime, we expand this into a Christmas party, with presents for each of the residents brought by Santa Claus. We provide a keyboard player, song sheets, and everyone sings holiday songs.
The residents are able to enjoy these parties in their own home with their Civitan friends, who also enjoy the fun and fellowship!
